White-throated Dipper trip on 19th of February
White-throated Dipper (Cinclus cinclus) is one of the wintering bird species in Latvia and most of them are coming here from Scandinavia and Kola peninsula. Usually the first birds arrive at the end of October and look for suitable wintering places along the swift rivers full of rapids. Latvia`s wintering population is approx. 350 – 500 birds.
On 19th of February we offer to take part in White-throated Dipper`s watching and trapping tour in Vidzeme togather with Latvias Dipper`s specialist Edgars Dzenis. Schedule - looking for dippers along the rivers coast lines and if it`ll be possible, trapping and ringing action!
Departure 8:00 from Rigas Latviesu Biedribas nams Merkela str. Rout : Inčupīte river at Inčukalns – Mežmuižas springs at Stīveri – Abze river at Suntaži - Aviekste river at Glāzšķūnīis – Lielā Jugla river at Ropaži and Zaķumuiža – Mazā Jugla river at Upeslejas. Arrival in Riga about 18:00.
We suggest to have a rubber boots, sandwiches and some hot drink (tea or coffee as you want) with you.
